GECKO is a suite of online tools for developing and delivering questions and assignments in introductory electronics and software for embedded systems. It was developed as a core output of Bill Collis' PhD research in Engineering Education.
The underpinning design goal for GECKO was that students would engage with conceptual knowledge within simulations, and then through questions, use this knowledge inferentially to solve problems. Specific ideas for GECKO came from thinking about what the conceptual knowledge needs of students were in introductory electronics and software for embedded systems; and how many existing tools were not equipped to meet those needs.
